What is your favorite meal? If you’re from the south, you may be inclined to say country-fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn-on-the-cob. My childhood favorite was meat-lovers pizza with pineapples. It doesn’t take any research to know that these foods are not the healthiest choices. So why do we love them so much? Because they’re down right delicious, that’s why! In the back of our mind we may know we should order a side of vegetables instead of French fries, but we don’t. Usually people force themselves into diets and grudgingly order the heart-healthy baked chicken and vegetables. We see health as a punishment in order to fix problems many of us face today such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and so much more. It’s natural to think about fruits and vegetables in order to improve health; however, many of us are unsure what else and how much of these healthy foods should we be eating. Too many people don’t know these answers and, frankly, many people’s ideas of health are wrong.

In this blog I will address the health issues with the most commonly eaten food products, common misconceptions of healthy foods, and how we can go about resolving these problems. If you don’t believe me, I implore you to research more for yourself. I have added plenty of links to reliable websites with more information on the material. It may be hard to digest--pun intended--and even more difficult to practice; however, the first step is becoming aware. Once you learn something you can’t "unlearn" it, especially when you come into contact with the subject three times a day. Of course it’s definitely easier to order a bacon cheddar burger with fries and a large soda than it is to eat your daily serving of fruits and vegetables, but it shouldn’t be. Even after I learned this information myself, it is still difficult in certain situations to stick to a genuinely healthy diet. My goal, however, is to create a restaurant chain that provides a variety of genuinely healthy and delicious foods at an affordable price and the convenience of a "drive-thru".

My name is Michelle Duncan and I’m a junior at The University of Texas at Austin studying accounting in the integrated MPA program. I’m pursuing a career in consulting because I believe, as a future entrepreneur, that it is a necessity to understand the language of business in order to be successful. With this knowledge I can maximize profits and avoid unnecessary expenditures in order to provide my products at an affordable price. Eating healthy is not cheap, but when properly managed I believe I can make adjusting to a healthy lifestyle an easy process for everyone.
